Pastor (Mrs) Florence Umana, wife of Mr Umana Okon Umana, managing director of the Oil and Gas Free Zones, has said that she has “neither interest in nor intention of running for any elective office in 2019.”
“The claim against me is a cheap shot by those who want to drag my name and that of my family into controversy,” Pastor (Mrs) Umana said. “They should direct their energy and time to better purpose.”
Mrs Umana spoke to our correspondent by phone upon enquiry on a speculation in an online publication that she would be a running mate to a governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State.
Mr Umana also spoke to our correspondent by phone and said his wife has no interest in contesting for any elective position in 2019. He advised journalists to remain true to the values of professional journalism which enjoin all practitioners to report only the truth.
Our political correspondent notes that there has been a rash of untenable speculations and outright false reports about political permutations in the state and the nation at large as the build-up to another election cycle in 2019 kicks in.
