Ministry of Defence To Spend Billions of Naira for Defence Intelligence School for Kitchen, Teaching Equipment

Secrets Reporters

SecretsReporters has unearthed significant allocations within the Ministry of Defence in the 2024 Appropriation Bill presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly substantial funds allocated for the Defence Intelligence School (DIS).

According to the budget, the ministry’s budget is pegged at totalling an impressive N1,578,450,319,079.00.

The 20 items listed by the ministry in the budget outline various allocations, with the 15th item being the affairs of the DIS, identified by code 0116011001, receiving a substantial total allocation of N4,268,801,495.

The detailed breakdown reveals that the DIS is set to receive N223,044,240 for the Purchase Of Canteen/Kitchen Equipment under budget code 23010120.

Additionally, a significant sum of N701,000,000 is allocated for the Purchase Of Teaching/Learning Aid Equipment, identified by the code 23010124.

The DIS, founded in 1986 with the primary mission of training agency staff, is also tasked with providing high-level training in the field of intelligence and security for armed forces personnel and the Ministry of Defence.

Alh. Mohammed Badaru, the incumbent Minister of Defence, who previously served as the Governor of Jigawa State, leads the ministry. He is supported by Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence and former Governor of Zamfara in the North-West geopolitical zone of Nigeria.

Despite the detailed allocation for the school, the budget lacks clarity on whether the proposed items are intended for a new facility or to enhance existing schools within the military. It is presumed that schools associated with the military should already possess Teaching/Learning Aid Equipment and Canteen/Kitchen Equipment.

President Tinubu presented the 2024 appropriation budget amounting to N27.5 trillion for the upcoming fiscal year. The presentation took place on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, during a joint session of the National Assembly at the temporary chamber of the House of Representatives.

As the budget undergoes further scrutiny and deliberation in the National Assembly, citizens and stakeholders await more information on the specific plans and objectives behind these allocations, especially concerning the DIS.
