The Senator representing Eket Senatorial district in Akwa Ibom state, Senator Nelson Effiong has been caught up in a scandal of obtaining by false pretense.
According to information reaching Secret Reporters, the victim Nsedu Onyile sent $10,000 to the Senator on 18th March, 2015 at exactly 11:23am to help fund his senatorial election bid which he duly acknowledged receipt of the money.
The lady who’s based in the United States of America is a Nigerian graduate of Nursing Administration. One Ante E. Okwong, made the cash transfer on her behalf through the Bank of America, Charlotte, North Carolina.
After receiving the said cash, the Senator has embarked on a smear and hate campaign in a bid to evade paying back the money owed the lady.
According to a mail of acknowledgment from Effiong, he claimed the $10,000 was a donation, even going as far as saying “you will tell all those you mentioned if I’ve ever begged you for a dime to do my election until you voluntarily called me and said you want to make a donation towards my election campaign. I will mess you up in Oron, Akwa Ibom and Nigeria I swear. You will show the whole world if I got a loan from you, the papers I signed and the agreement we entered into. Just try any nonsense and I will tell the whole world” threatened the Senator known for being docile in the National Assembly.
Nsedu Onyile, in a bid to recover her money has enlisted the services of A.B Cobhams and Associates who are solicitors of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and in a letter dated 6th October, 2016 and signed by one of the law firms solicitors ,Dr Emmanuel B. Eyo Esq, and addressed to the Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, wrote that “After Senator Nelson Effiong had acknowledged receipt of the $10,000, rather than being grateful for the favour done him, he instead choose to insult, disrespect and throw vituperation on our client. His email to our client revealed his gross misconduct of dishonesty, insincerity and obtaining by false pretense. Tersely, we consider it to be scandalous, libelous and immoral for a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to utter such words
Several petitions have since been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police and the Archbishop of the Methodist Church of Unity, in Wuse Zone 3, Abuja where he worships.
In a chat with Secret Reporters, she stated that she has tried reaching out to Effiong to pay the money for over two years, but bluntly refused to do so, hence her resolve to engage the services of a law firm in Calabar.
Speaking further, Nsedu Onyile said “Why are we such human worshipers??? Tabasco (as the Senator is also called) asked for, received, & confirmed funds from me. Let’s agree I was dripping in funds & he was the neediest person to assist, why does he threaten to kill me if I step foot in Nigeria?
Where is the receipt of so called campaign contributions so he can pay taxes? I sponsored his campaign out of good will in respect of my father. I contributed to release him from his kidnappers few years before. He asked for extra in loan form towards the end to round up his senatorial bid. Yes, nothing in writing but how many others have written proposals for my support.
The Senator is known to be lazy and unresponsive in the Red Chambers, answering only “ayes” and “nays”.
Calls and SMS sent to the Senator were not responded to as at press time.
