The Judge(s) charged with the responsibility of hearing and giving out judgment in civil and criminal cases as well as ensuring that the law is obeyed and justice prevails in the country has in recent times drifted from their core functions as they now use their “almighty positions” to administer wrong judgments to citizens which tends to confirm the saying that power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
This is evident in the alleged refusal by the Acting President of the Customary Court of Appeal Imo State Hon. Justice C.U. Anwukah to sign the release papers of an inmate who she sentenced to 30 days imprisonment for perjury in the Federal Prisons Owerri Imo State after completing his jail term.
Her refusal to lawfully grant release to the inmate, Chief Uju Madu who was earlier sent to prison because he allegedly refused to succumb to an unrighteous persecution by surrendering his land to Fr Gerald Njoku and his family who wanted an access way to their property SecretReporters learned was simply because her name appeared on an online publication which she believes was a big slap on her face and reputation.
This online medium also gathered that Hon. Justice C.U. Anwukah did not only refuse to sign the release papers for Chief Uju Madu who is done serving his term but also allegedly threatened that she will ensure that he rots in prison. There are speculations that the actions and judgment melted on Chief Uju Madu by the presiding judge is strongly connected to the fact that she is an in-law to Justice A.B. Egu who is a relative of Fr Gerald Njoku as well as her colleague in the customary court of appeal, Owerri.
