The request granted by Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja for the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC)’s to freeze bank accounts allegedly owned by the immediate past Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari may bitten deep into his pockets as reports from sources in the state reveal that the former governor arguably is going through a hard time after he was restricted from accessing his accounts in Zenith and Polaris banks operated with funds in both local and foreign currencies.

This is evident in a letter addressed to the present Zamfara State governor seen by this online news medium in which the embattled former governor under whom local government workers were earning N6,000 as basic salary, lamented on not receiving money for his monthly upkeep for more than three months now.

From the letter, it was deduced that asides money for the upkeep which is pegged at N10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) monthly, former governor Abdul’aziz also complained that he had only received his pension which is equivalent to the salary he was receiving while in office once since the expiration of his tenure on May 29, 2019.

“As the law provides, the pension and upkeep allowance are not in the category of privileges that can be truncated without any justifiable reason” he wrote.

However, sources indicate that the non-payment of the upkeep may not be far-fetched from the ongoing investigations on the former governor whom many believe allegedly used his political stooge in the state house of assembly to amend the provisions of the pensions act for former governors, former deputy governors, former speakers, former deputy speakers which he quickly assented to on March 23 2019, two months before he vacated the office of the State Governor.
