For the Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Chief William Makinde and his 14-man Governing Board Christmas has come very early.
A source inside DESOPADEC reveals to XCLUSIVE MAGAZINE that the DESOPADEC Board meeting slated for tomorrow, Wednesday 4 November 2015 at the DESOPADEC office Warri is going to be more of a Christmas bonanza in which 120 million of the N3billion released to the board recently by the State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is to be shared.
On the agenda already circulated to Board members, which was also made available to XCLUSIVE MAGAZINE, the board meeting is arranged to discuss serious issues regarding the welfare and development of the oil producing communities. But according to the insider source, in reality the meeting is all about Santa Claus coming to town for Chief Makinde and his board members!
Already, about 40 buses earlier purchased by DESOPADEC for schools in oil producing communities of State had already been distributed among DESOPADEC Board members as Christmas presents. XCLUSIVE MAGAZINE gathered from credible sources that Makinde took two of the buses and gave one each to the Executive Directors and Commissioners. We understand that he also gave 5 buses to the Delta State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress and one to Africa Independent Television (AIT) in Oghara.
“The sad thing about this Father Christmas is that the schools in an oil producing areas of Delta State that the buses were originally meant for were left with absolutely nothing,” laments our source.
At their inauguration on 28 August 2015, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had called “for discipline, sacrifice and prudent management of our resources for maximum benefits to our people,” while charging the 14-member board “to use the bottom-up approach; the communities should determine the projects they want in their areas so that peace will reign and development will be enhanced.”
But for Makinde and his board members it is business as usual, and by their corrupt acts, they are laughing Okowa away as being more catholic than the pope.
