As the gubernatorial election in Anambra state slated for November 18 draws closer, the incumbent Governor of the state, Willie Obiano seems to be making recent headlines for inconsequential reasons. One of such was at a recent town hall meeting held in Lagos where the spendthrift displayed few brands of his customized champagne imported from Spain.
Secret Reporters learnt from a reliable source that out the 100 containers that were imported, 10 containers was recently cleared and were meant specifically for testing. On special orders by the governor, the brewers made special wines with distinctive taste from the usual brand. A lover of champagne who tasted the wine said it was grade one in wetting the appetite. He went on to say that even if ones papillae are damaged, he would still get the pleasant taste.
Investigation conducted revealed that a bottle of customized Moscato Rose champagne which was one of the brands imported, currently goes for about $40, with a carton containing 12 bottles that will amount to almost N173,000 in local currency for each carton. A container load is assumed to contain 6,912 and 15,552 bottles for a 20ft and 40ft container respectively. Going by the least calculations, with import duties and paperwork fees aside, the governor must have spent close to N9,964,800,000 (Nine Billion, Nine Hundred and Sixty Four Million, Eight hundred thousand Naira) to get the products into the country.
Our source also disclosed that during the recent town hall meeting where Gov. Obiano fondly called Willie Kai Kai due to his love for strong alcohol met with Anambra people resident in Lagos state, the egotistic governor in his usual manner stated that although the meeting was to raise funds, he already had more than enough to prosecute the election, but that whatever was contributed should be seen as a complement.
A little drama also played out when Chief Victor Umeh, a well-known proponent of the present government started his usual drenches of nonsense against the former governor of the state – Peter Obi this and that, most of the people present left the hall, except for about 20 that stayed back. They Anambra indigenes were scandalized that rather than tell Anambra people what Obiano did in four years, the eulogizer was busy chasing winds.
