Secret Reporters
The arrest of the Publisher/Editor In Chief of the Ink Newspaper, Nsibiet John has the hands of the notorious former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Godswill Akpabio, Secret Reporters can report authoritatively.
We gathered on good authority that that even though the very old and docile Deputy Governor of the State, Grandpa Moses Ekpo has nursed the ambition to arrest the popular pen pusher; the State Governor, Mr Emmanuel Udom had pleaded with him to let him be.
According to our source, Grandpa Ekpo popularly called Pa Mo was not satisfied with his boss plea and reported to their godfather, Akpabio, who prevailed on Udom to allow Ekpo deal with Nsibiet to serve as a deterrent to other journalists who will use their Newspaper to fight the government.
He convinced Udom that 2017 kicks off the election period and will need to be proactive by using the journalist as example. With Akpabio’s advice, his godson allowed Pa Mo to have his way, which sealed the arrest on Thursday afternoon.
As soon as he was picked up and detained in Ikot Akpan Abia Police Station which serves as the Headquarter, we gathered that the Deputy Governor called Akpabio that the deal has been done. Thereafter, Akpabio instructed Udom to give all the necessary support in making sure that Nsibiet finds his way to prison.
A source also revealed to Secret Reporters that it was a colleague that set the Editor up by showing the Policemen his house, after collecting some undisclosed amount of money.
Efforts to get him out of cell where he has been beaten to a pulp after been allegedly stripped naked and his photos taken has proved abortive. The state Nigerian Union of Journalist merely issued a very watery Press Release that only emboldens the Police and Grandpa to continue to detain and molest him. The only strong statement calling for his immediate release has been from the Coalition of Human Rights Defenders (CHORD), Independent Newspapers Publishers Association (INPA) and League of Newspaper Publishers.
As at the time of filing this report, the new Commissioner of Information, Charles Udo that has docility and laziness in his mien has not picked his calls, but diverted them, to avoid the numerous calls that will besiege his phone. The Governor Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Ekerete Udoh who was lucky to escape death during the Reigners Bible Church collapse has also not picked calls, in his usual nature, neither has he responded to SMS sent to him, to get his principal’s side of conspiring in the arrest.
