The Executive President of the ECOWAS Youth Council-EYC, H/E. ‘Seun Ologun William has called on the Security agencies to take proper actions to stem the tide of killings going on in Southern Kaduna.
He made the call during the EYC courtesy visit at the office of the SSA to the President on Students and Youths Affairs in Abuja.
In his words: “…we call on the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, H/E. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the chief security officer of the state to take a more proactive action in abating this carnage. The President of Nigeria, H/E. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR should also constitute a high powered committee to look into this perennial destruction of human lives in that region.
The Killings have become recurrent, we are dismayed at the handling of this ugly incident as it seems to paint a picture of a nation that has refused to learn from her stormy history, especially of these killings continue.
Villages are pillaged and sacked, while people live at the mercy of armed elements. The media is rife with gory images of dead people, butchered and beheaded by their fellow countrymen, under whatever guise, of religion, farmland/grazing land dispute, Fulani herdsmen/nomadic livestock farmers, the government is hereby reminded of her role as the main provider of security of lives and properties, failure to do so will consequently result in people providing their own security, this portends a great danger for the giant of Africa.
We say enough is enough, peace is a prerequisite for development and food security, our security forces must raise the alert levels, protect human lives and properties and the killers should be brought to book.
The youth who’s loved ones are killed, lands taken, and properties destroyed will have nothing to lose tomorrow, and if eventually there is an opportunity to possess arms… that is another killer on the loose.
Conclusively, we call on the state and federal government to make a joint effort to compensate victims and most importantly, end this killing once and for all
