Secret Reporters gathered that Paul Ifere who was purportedly arrested by some Police Officers in Abuja on Thursday 20th October 2017 had earlier written a petition to the police on a plot to assassinate him by the Cross Rivers State Government. Subsequently he was invited by the police based on the petition, when he made himself available, it turned out it was a trick as he was abducted and driven all night to SCID Diamond Hill Calabar, where Ayade instructed the police not to allow anyone access to him.
Investigations conducted by Secret Reporters also revealed that the operation was coordinated by the Chief of Staff to Governor Ayade; Security Adviser to Governor Ayade and the Chief of the Green Homeland Security. Presently Paul Ifere is being illegally detained at a cell in Diamond Hill State Police Headquarters, Calabar. The plan is that he would be arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court on Monday the 23rd October 2017 on a trumped up charge of kidnapping and alleged membership of a Secret Society.
The real intention by these villainous agents is to abuse the legal process and use it to oppress Paul Ifere as there is no atom or scintilla of evidence to ground the allegation. According to Okoi Obono-Obla, one of Cross Rivers famous lawyer who’s also the Special Assistant in Prosecution to President Muhammadu Buhari, “The main gist of the heinous plot is that when Paul Ifere is arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court, the Court will decline jurisdiction to try the charges against him but will rather order that Paul be remanded in prisons custody pending when the Director of Public Prosecutions of the State will file charges against him before the High Court. This baleful procedure usually takes time as the defendant or accused person would have spent considerable time in prison”.
Secret Reporters can authoritatively confirm that as at the time of this report even his lawyers and family members have not been allowed to see him, an act seen by many legal minds as a serious breach of his human rights.
“The conscience-stricken government of Gov. Ben Ayade and the Nigerian Police should be responsible and know that the law is not an instrument of oppression but a vehicle to promote social engineering” Obla also added.
