The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has stirred controversy with the recent appointment of Dr. Eno Eze, wife of Pastor Jerry Eze, as the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission. The announcement, made by the Chief Press Secretary of the Governor, Mr. Kazie Uko, has sparked debates over her qualifications and suitability for the role.
Dr. Eno Eze’s appointment comes under scrutiny due to her lack of experience within the civil service sector in Abia State. Despite her impressive academic credentials, including an MBA in Entrepreneurial Management and a Masters in International Human Resource Management, concerns have been raised regarding her suitability to lead the state’s civil service commission.
Pastor Jerry Eze, her husband, is renowned as the founder of Streams of Joy International and the convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD), an online digital prayer meeting platform. While Pastor Eze has gained prominence for his ministry focused on revival and healing, questions arise about the connection between his relationship with Governor Otti and Dr. Eno Eze’s appointment.
The controversy deepens as it is revealed that Dr. Eno Eze’s career has predominantly been in management consultancy, working with multinational companies, mega-churches, and non-profit organizations. Despite her extensive experience in management and consultancy roles, her lack of background in civil service administration raises doubts about her ability to effectively lead the commission.
Prior to her appointment, Dr. Eno Eze served as the Resident Pastor of Streams of Joy Umuahia, further highlighting her affiliation with her husband’s ministry rather than civil service expertise.
Critics argue that her appointment may be influenced more by personal connections rather than merit, raising concerns about the transparency and accountability of the appointment process, especially as she is not a civil servant in the state.
