NO MAN’S LAND: HOW IFO LGA COUNCIL STAFF USE PRIVATE ACCOUNT NUMBERS TO COLLECT LGA REVENUE

Ifo local government council in Ogun State with a population of about 539,170 people, doubling as the constituency of the Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly Rt Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, has transformed into a no man’s land for extortion where diversion of the LGA’s revenue to private pockets by staff of the council has become a norm while the Chairman Hon. Enilolobo O. turns a blind eye.

Information available to SecretReporters revealed that as though there is no individual elected to overseer the affairs of the Local government council Chairman or an active council account where revenue of the State should be paid to, staff members of the council allegedly give out their private account numbers to individuals taking full advantage of the fact that there no checks and balances exist in the council.

A resident of the Local government area who went to the council to pay his dues stated that upon arrival at the council, having been given the amount he is supposed to pay to the council, a UBA account number 2089972010 belonging to Amoke Awopegba A. a staff of the council was scribbled on a sheet and given to him to make payments.

Due to the lucrative nature of the extortion spree, It was also revealed that the collection of the revenue was now been rotated among private individuals depending on who it pleases the council chairman Hon Enilolobo to give it to per time.

Another source who described Ifo LGA as a hub of corruption squealed that “…imagine paying tenement rate in a private account and when you complain about it you get the lame excuse that the account owner was the one granted the contract after the election. I just tire for them”.

Further findings showed that not willing to allow any farthing escape their accounts, while a group of the council members fleece the local government of its revenue at the office, others storm the road demanding payments for daily tickets from motorist which never gets to the coffers of the council.

A road user who proceeded to the council for the renewal of his driver’s license also revealed that “I paid for my car license renewal in a private account, Amuwo Odofin lga”.

It is believed that the chairman of the local government may not be oblivious of the menace by the council members as some believe that he gets kickbacks from the hence no significant action has been taken to put the nefarious practice by the council staff in check.
