The coming back of Chief James Onanefe Ibori has empowered the Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Mr Williams Makinde to start challenging the authority of the State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa; multiple sources in the board recently told Secret Reporters.

We exclusively gathered that Makinde and the board members initiated a trip to Antigua and Barbuda, a sovereign state in the Americas lying between Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, which was forwarded to the Governor for approval.

The trip which was for one week was out rightly rejected by Okowa who queried them for being insensitive to the media backlash in the state following series of travel made in recent time by him and other government officials and warned clearly that no board member should travel to the country under any guise.

We however learnt that Makinde hissed and ordered his travel agent to book the flight to the US where he will connect Antigua and Barbuda. To give impetus to his challenge of the governor’s order; he added Ibori to the trip.

Against the Governor’s directive, he travelled, revealed our source. When we asked the purpose of the trip, the source stated that “the board members said it was an economic trip until the governor cancelled it, but Makinde may have gone for private investment he has there or launder money there. Ibori was not around during the celebration of his birthday party as he was abroad with Makinde and just came back last weekend”

Another source alleged that since the coming of Ibori to Nigeria, who ensured that Makinde was made the MD, he now acts like he’s loyal to no one and travels as he likes without telling the governor.

It is not clear if he will be sacked or suspended for flouting the governor’s order should this get to his ears, as government house sources contacted by this medium noted that Okowa is not aware of the trip.

All efforts to reach Makinde proved abortive as he never responded to calls placed to his two known lines.
