Contrary to news making the rounds that the wife of the Delta State governor Dame Edith Okowa pocketed $10 million (about 3.5 billion Naira) through her baby agency the 05 initiative, SecretReporters can authoritatively report that though the President and CEO of the Initiative for Global Development, Leila Ndiaye stated that the organization through one of its members has offered to help computerize sickle cell patients records in Delta State, no monetary donation was made to Mrs Okowa’s pet project.
In an official reply to this online news medium, the Initiative for Global Development, a not-for-profit organization alleged to have made the First Lady of Delta State N3.5bn richer during an event organized on September 25, 2019, at the Nigerian Consulate in New York debunked the assertion stating that, “As clearly stated in her remarks, President Ndiaye announced that IGD, through one of its members, has offered to help digitize Sickle Cell Disease patients’ records, starting with all children in the Delta State; an offer, if monetized, would be valued at USD ($) 10 Million.”
“This offer does not include any cash donation to the 05 Initiative. Also, there is no monetary transfer of funds to 05 Initiative.”
It should be recalled that about a week ago, the Nigerian news space was agog with stories of the suspension of one of the youngest aides in governor Okowa’s administration over a Facebook post he made in connection to the donation which allegedly did not go down well with the first family of Delta State thus his suspension without pay for two months by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
It is yet to be ascertained the actual motive behind the suspension of Mr Ovie Success Ossai the Special Assistant on Special Duties as he has since placed himself on a compulsory oath of silence.
