The Bauchi state police command has intercepted a trailer loaded with ballot boxes at a checkpoint in Darazo local government area of the state.
Shortly after the trailer was intercepted Saturday morning, the news spread in town like a wild fire that the trailer was loaded with ballot papers allegedly thumb printed for the People’s Democratic Party presidential candidate.
However, on the arrival of the vehicle at the police station at GRA, the police discovered that the vehicle was carrying ballot boxes.
African Examiner gathered that the vehicle took off from Lagos state and was heading to Gombe state when it was intercepted at a checkpoint in Darazo local government area.
One of the chieftains of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, who does not want his name in print said they became curious because the vehicle was not an official vehicle of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and was carrying such sensitive election materials all the way from Lagos to Gombe state without security personnel.
He said: “We are insisting that the content of the vehicle should be offloaded in our presence and newsmen to satisfy our curiosity.”
However, the Bauchi state Police command has dismissed the rumour that the trailer loaded with thumb printed ballot papers in favour of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, adding that the rumour is unsubstantiated, misleading and capable of causing disharmony among political parties in the state.
