Less than 24 hours to PDP Senate primary, there is palpable tension and fears in Asaba, the Delta state capital over looming violence that could disrupt the polls.
Credible information reaching us has revealed that Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the incumbent Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, has mobilised hundreds of heavily armed cultists to invade Cenotaph, Asaba, venue of the PDP Delta North senatorial primary.
According to our source who spoke under condition of strict anonymity, the intention of the planned mayhem is to ensure that the election is violence-prone and inconclusive.
Senator Nwaoboshi, it was alleged, took to this option following general opinion which rated his fiercest opponent, Prince Ned Nwoko as highly favoured by a majority of the PDP delegates across the 9 local government areas of Delta North to pull victory at the primary election scheduled to hold tomorrow, 2nd October 2018.
As alleged by our source, a party stalwart in Delta, Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government, Hon. Security agents in Delta state have however been tipped over the development.
“Nwaoboshi is a known electoral fraudster who does not believe in a contest. He always wants tickets handed to him on a platter of gold, which this time has become difficult with the avowed determination of the PDP government in Delta to provide a level playing field to all aspirants across the three senatorial districts in the state” the source alleged.
“What has further alienated Nwaoboshi from the people of Delta North is his embarrassing case with EFCC and Code of conduct Bureau. Most persons in Anioma are not happy with the endless controversy and scandal he has brought while representing them. They feel ashamed and insulted by his track record alleged graft.
Recall that the Ibusa born Nwaoboshi who represents Delta North at the National Assembly is currently facing series of criminal investigations over corruption charges running into billions of Naira. He was recently arraigned on a two-count charge of money laundering and fraud alongside two companies namely: Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd slammed on them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFIn the charge No: FHC/L/117C/2018, the EFCC alleged that the accused committed the offences between May and June 2014 in Lagos.
Nwaoboshi was said to have acquired a property described as Guinea House, Marine Road, in Apapa Lagos, for the sum of N805 million when he reasonably ought to have known that N322 million out of the purchase sum formed part of proceeds of an unlawful act.
