The leadership style in Abia state has come under scrutiny following the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries, which saw the emergence of the former Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), Prof. Uche Ikonne, as its governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections.
This is following a fallout in the ranks of the PDP in Abia state over the just concluded primaries, which has now led to the rustication of the Member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, a Law student at the university, was indicted three years ago on recommendation by the investigative panel set up by Prof. Uche Ikonne.
According to the report, the investigative panel chaired by Dr Dick Uduma, after investigations, showed that the 300-level student of the Faculty of Law, Onwusibe, Ginger Obinna, had engaged in examination malpractice during the 2018/2019 second semester examinations.
SecretReporters learned that while Hon. Ginger Onwusibe kicked against the increment of fees on the floor of the state house of assembly the investigation indicting him was covered up as a means of negotiation to silence his voice on the floor. But following his decampment to the Labour party, seen by the ruling PDP in Abia State as a third force, his file was revisited.
Sources further revealed that this witch-hunting is not far from Onwusibe’s allegation in the disclaimer he issued, distancing himself from a list sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presenting him as the winner of the PDP primary election for State House of Assembly held on 22/05/2022 for Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency of Abia State. Onwusibe in his statement indicated that he withdrew from the PDP primaries because of the impropriety, notoriety and infamy overtly surrounding the 2022 primary elections in the party orchestrated by the ill-advised leadership of the party in Abia State.
While Prof. Uche Ikonne clinched the PDP gubernatorial ticket, his student Ginger Onwusibe has since decamped and has joined the race to the green Chambers to represent Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal constituency under the Labour Party.
This questions the leadership credibility of the PDP led government in Abia State and the University that took three years to act on a report of examination malpractice on a student and a state house member who is now in a political fallout with the government of the day.
