PHILANTHROPY GONE WRONG: AFTER GIVING JUST N50,000 WORTH OF ITEMS TO ORPHANS, AKWA IBOM COMMISSIONER DOLES OUT N200,000 TO NEWSPAPERS TO PUBLISH THE PICTURES

It appears that philanthropy is no more what it used to be it is now a philantrumpet; where people help the needy for publicity and vain- glory. If help does not come from the heart, it is bilious no matter how masked it is. Helping the needy should be what we should do as a heartfelt service to humanity.

Today politicians live their lives on plain cloth propaganda. We have gone past the period where we could be easily fooled and made to believe that HELP is HELP. No! It is actually YELP with the veneer of HELP.

It was made known to Secret Reporters by an anonymous source that the Akwa Ibom state Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Mr. Akan Okon on Sunday, 1st October, 2017 celebrated his 52nd birthday with orphans at the Government Special Children’s home at IBB way.

The items counted by Secret Reporters were not more than N50,000 but he went with paid news crew which cost him over N300,000 just to publicise the event and show his act of kindness.

He also visited the Anua Hospital, Uyo and paid the medical expenses of some of the patients and gave gifts to new born babies and their mothers.

Well this is a great act and fine service to humanity but what flawed this is the motive to use this in order to have cheap publicity and attain political climax. He is said to have paid the sum of N200,000(Two hundred thousand naira) to state owned news tabloids to publish the story and disseminate it widely.
