As the media crisis facing the Governor of Kogi State, Mr Yahaya Bello rages on, he has made move through his Chief of Staff, Mr Edward Onoja to buy off some of the online news platform, Secret Reporters has authoritatively learnt.
We gathered that Onoja in conjunction with the Special Assistant on New Media reached out to some Lagos based online news publishers to save them from the embarrassing media report the state is constantly facing.
To perfect this plan, the publishers were invited to Lokoja on Tuesday for a meeting with Bello on Wednesday. On their arrival, they were lodged in a hotel which has been paid for, for two days.
According to our source, over fifty online publishers were invited with twelve of them turning down the invitation, while the rest gladly took the offer.
After the briefing by the Governor, they will each be given a misery sum of N200,000 as ‘Thanks for coming’, a parlance used for brown envelope journalists.
Some of the invited Publishers who spoke to us on condition of anonymity and spirit of media comradeship revealed that they are attending the event to hear the usual lies Bello and Onoja will tell, but vowed to go ahead to publish the truth irrespective of the money they will be given.
The event was initially billed for July but was cancelled, as Bello was said to be out of the country.
