Fowl and Toothpick: Amaechi’s Ministry Of Transport To Lavish N48 Million On Unspecified Sports Equipment

Secret Reporters

The Federal Ministry of Transport has earmarked huge sums of money to upgrade its sports agenda in its 2022 budget, perhaps as part of its veiled mandate of staying fit and developing sports while addressing the numerous challenges facing the Nigeria’s transportation sector.

Recently appointed as the Dan Amanar Daura (trusted son of Daura) by the the Emir of Daura, Umar – Faruk Umar for his dedication to the development of the Daura emirate and his illustrious work in the community which include the siting of the University of Transport Technology in Daura among others, the former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi penned down a suspicious item as part of projects to be executed by his ministry.

According to approved 2022 budget, under the Federal Ministry of transport, the frivolous budget item with code ERGP26138160, titled “Purchase of Sport Equipment,” was allocated N48 million.

No description or quantity of the sports equipment to be purchased were mentioned for the project marked as ongoing.

Similarly, item ERGP26151508 titled purchase of sporting equipment for the annual federation of public service games (FEPSGA) and meeting saw N2 million penned down by Amaechi who is rumoured to have joined the presidential race for the 2023 elections.

With the 2022 approved budget of the Federal Government littered with about 460 frivolous and duplicated projects worth N378.9bn, Nigerians especially civil society organisations are calling on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to ensure that taxpayer’s money are not wasted on projects which will add no economic value to the country.
