Secret Reporters
All is currently not well with the Nigerian Police, as the Inspector General of police, Ibrahim Idris, is making frantic efforts, to turn the law to favour his men in the police.
Secret Reporters had earlier reported on the Cross River State CP Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, giving details of how the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, was petitioned to the presidency for aiding, abetting, shielding and releasing kidnap suspects under his investigation in exchange for gratification.
In a petition, which was written to the Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau through his acting Director Police Services Department, Ministry of Police Affairs, the Minister had directed the Inspector-General of Police to take appropriate actions against CP Jimoh Ozi-Obeh through a letter dated 30th October, 2016 with Policy Number MPA/PSD/0034/T6/II and was received in the office of the IGP on 4th November, 2016.
Contrary to this directive, the IG, in a bid to twist facts and subvert justice, through his Principal Staff Officer, DCP Hafiz Inuwa, further directed the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Ozi-Obeh through a directive approved via Policy Number CZ:7050/IGP SEC/ABJ/VOL. 106/794 to investigate the same petition against him.
Sources queried how CP Jimoh Ozi-Obeh can be an accused, an investigator and a judge in his own case. The IGP ought to have directed a more Superior Officer higher in rank to investigate CP Jimoh Ozi-Obeh and take over the case file in his possession.
“By the action of the IGP, the principle of justice and equity has been violated because CP Jimoh Ozi-Obeh cannot investigate his own self, write a report against him and prosecute himself.”
Ibrahim Idris has continued to shield CP Jimoh Ozi-Obeh from investigation and possible prosecution over the role he played in freeing kidnapping suspects under his investigation. We gathered that, the life of the complainant and his family members are in serious danger for daring to expose CP Jimoh Ozi-Obeh’s alleged criminal activities of aiding, abetting and shielding kidnap suspects.
Our investigation reveals that, the Cross River Police Commissioner is an ally of the I.G, and as such, cannot be investigated, which further explains his silence on the Commissioner’s corrupt activities.
