BAD MARKET: POLICE AIG GIVES ORDER TO SARS TO STOP SEARCH OF PHONES OR FACE SANCTION

Following the high public outcry of the alleged brutalities, extortion on highways, as well as the illegal searching of phones by officers of the Nigerian police resulting in unnecessary long queues on the highway, the AIG ZONE 5 in Benin, Edo State, has warned officers attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti-Kidnapping sections, ACPOLS, and SUPOLS to immediately desist from such ill-mannered or face strict sanctions.

This information was made known through a Police wireless message from COMPOL’ DFE’ASABA dated DTO:031800/01/2020 and addressed to all ACPOS, DPOs, HODs, and relevant divisions in Benin directing them to caution officers who engage in illegal extortions, searching of phones, and other illegal operations, especially on the highways which has in no small way, dented the image of the Force.

The message reads “owing to public outcry as being speculated in the dallies against extortion on the highways in the Zone by policemen, AIGZON 5 BENIN directs that you warn men attached to SARS, Anti-Robbery, Anti-Kidnapping Sections, ACPOLS and SUPOLS yours to desist forthwith from such actions of searching phones, stopping Commercial vehicles thereby causing unnecessarily long queues on the highway… ”

The information also stated that monitoring teams from DIGPOL and ZONE 5 are on the high lookout for officers who may intend to violate the order, as it vowed to vicariously sanction any officer found guilty without any further reminder.

The DECOMPOL DOPS, ACPOLS, DPOS and HODS of every station are also directed to strictly comply with the directive from the AIG ZONE 5 to avoid a recurrence from their men and make the nation a better place.
