Our sources, who witnessed the melee, added that the irate crowd disallowed him from presenting the goodwill message from the Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello at the second year memorial lecture of late Prince Abubakar Audu, held at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
Several sources said pandemonium broke out immediately the speaker mentioned governor Bello’s name in his speech.
A source hinted that the youths started shouting; “Bello Ole! Go and pay Kogi workers their salary.”
One of the angry youths, who simply identified himself as Ochimana, said he and others were angered by the lawmaker’s message from Bello.
“We all flared up and started raining abuses on him and told him that he shouldn’t mention Bello’s name wherever we are, because he stoles our mandate and never cares for the people of the state. We told him that gone are those days when money would buy our conscience.”
The youth added that somebody close to Bello had boasted that the governor had put aside billions of naira to secure a return to his seat in 2020 election.
Speaking after the showdown, Alhaji Musa Bello, chairman of Kogi State APC Youth vanguard described the governor Bello as a big disappointment to Kogi people, adding that Bello had failed to redeem all promises he made to youth groups.
When contacted by phone, the speaker promised to return the call in an hour, but failed to do so. All efforts to reach him for comments also proved abortive as he did not respond to calls and texts to his mobile line.
