Members of the church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in Ibadan North today held a prayer session at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Moniya Ibadan, during which they sought for God’s intervention on the kidnap of her members Professor and Dr (Mrs) Fabunmi.
Professor and Dr (Mrs) Fabunmi were kidnapped last Friday in Oba-Akoko, Ondo State while on their way to Ibilo Edo State.
It was gathered that the husband Prof. Marthins Fabunmi was later released after sustaining gunshot injuries and the kidnappers who demanded N5 million has reduced it to N1.5 million before she can be released according to a family source. The Vicar of St Paul’s Anglican Church Revd Canon John Ogunniran while praying for the immediate release of Dr Beatrice Fabunmi urged the police and other security agencies to do all that will be necessary to secure her release.
“We join friends, family and other well-meaning Nigerians in calling on the abductors of our member Dr. Mrs Beatrice Fabunmi to immediately release her unconditionally and unhurt” Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), University of Ibadan chapter, Dr. Deji Omole, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase to ensure an unconditional release of a staff of the University. Dr Fabunmi works at Kenneth Dike Library of the University.
Omole who described the kidnapping as uncalled for added that academic staff in Nigeria deserved total protection as a vulnerable group of people poorly paid. The ASUU chief asked the IGP, Solomon Arase to deploy the anti-kidnapping squad to ensure that the victim is released unhurt. “Where will ordinary Nigerians pass that they will be safe? Our roads are death traps and since we cannot afford the airfare, we endure the hardship only for us to be kidnapped again! This is evil and must be stopped. The inspector General of Police needs to track down the Kidnappers in Ondo State and other adjourned states.
We ASUU demand an unconditional release and safe return of one of our own. The state must guarantee the security of its members.
President Buhari must take an urgent security measure to ensure the release of our member within 24 hours.” Dr. Omole said that the case had been reported to the police, he alleged that the case was not being treated with the utmost attention it deserves
