AKWA IBOM STATE NUJ TEARS APART OVER COMMISIONER’S N200, 000 LARGESE

There is currently trouble brewing secretly in the Akwa Ibom State Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Council, over what other Journalists described as cheating by the Patrick Albert led Council.
Our source who confided in us noted that the State Commissioner for rural development, Barr .Effiong Abia’s was given an award by Methodist Church in his Village, which attracted Journalists.

After the award, we gathered that they all went for reception, where they were given N200,000 by Barr. Effiong to share among themselves.
The sharing formula later became dubious as the state council in the presence of the NUJ State Chairman shared N3000 to only 35 Journalists, leaving out some cashless, which attracted protest from them, including the ones who got the paltry sum. The Chairman was noted to have said the balance of the money will be used to fund the union project.
“What project are they funding? The State governor gives money every month to the council for such. They are fund of eating the general money all in the name of project”, said another source.
We authoritatively gathered that it has been a norm among the State Exco to always keep money given during assignments to themselves without disclosing what they are truly meant for. The pressmen in the state are currently plotting to stage a revolution if the attitude do not change, stated a source
