Ahead of the 2015 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State, the camps of the duo of Umana Okon Umana and Bassey Albert, both of Uyo senatorial district ,struggling for the plum job of Governor against the peoples resolve to support power shift to Eket senatorial district are already experiencing massive rejection and abandonment by their supporters, who are reportedly leaving in droves.
This is coming days after a reception the duo organized at Asan Ibibio grounds, under the guise of elders of the Ibibio ethnic nationality, in honour of the former governor of the state, Obong (Arc) Victor Attah.
Sources close to both camps have it that since the pronouncement in support of power shift to Eket senatorial district by Former Governor Attah, at the event, the duo of Albert and Umana have not had it easy, as they are striving day and night to convince the people that Attah never meant to endorse zoning.
Upon our findings, a key supporter of Bassey Albert who does not want his name on print said it was disheartening and embarrassing that they were fooled of Obong Attah’s support for a Governor of Uyo senatorial extraction, by their principal, only to discover that the former governor will be firm and truthful.
Also a visibly angry supporter of Umana Okon Umana, who simply gave his name as Ephraim Ekong, said he was disappointed that Umana could mislead them into believing the former governor was not comfortable with having a governor from the Eket senatorial district of the state.
Obong Victor Attah during his speech, penultimate Friday said ‘ consequential logic requires that Uyo and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts having taken shots at the governorship of the State, it expected that Eket District should produce the next Governor….’
It is widely reported that Albert and Umana now whins in regret of ever sponsoring the event, as it has caused them the support they previously enjoyed, even as desperate attempts by the duo to misrepresent the elder statesman’s position on zoning of governorship in the state to Eket senatorial district, has been widely rebuffed by their supporters, who now say they have heard from the horse’s mouth.
With the recent development, it could be said that the reign of lies, blackmail and deceit against the Eket senatorial district’s governorship bid is gravitating to an end, as our reporters noted that the campaign offices belonging to the duo of Umana and Albert, which used to be a beehive of activities has now become a ghost of itself.
Efforts to speak to the Director Generals of their campaign groups were unsuccessful. And as expected, they may still be nursing brunts of the fatal loss and rejection a reception they organised was causing them.
