Secret Reporters
The plans of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, which has been hidden for years may have finally been brought to the limelight following the power tussle in the University community, as regards the next occupant of the office of the University Registrar.
This is contained in an appeal by the concerned FUOYE staff groups, who insist that the outgoing VC should allow the university system to evolve properly without any manipulation of its administrative and management process.
According to the petition seen by SecretReporters which was addressed to the Pro-Chancellor of the University, his Royal Majesty Dr Michael Idakwo Ameh Oboni, the Attah Igala, Prof.Kayode’s academic bullying started when he was appointed in 2016 as he brazenly created the office of the Director of Administration, a move that did not go down well with most administrative staff of the institution as the office was not known to the law establishing the University.
Kayode we learned, went further to installl his crony Mr Olatunbosun Odusanya from the National Open University as the Director of Administration while illegally placing him on CONTISS 15, an elevation from his previous post of Principal Assistant Registrar on Grade level CONTISS 13.
This action birthed irregularities and illegality in the University system. Notable among which was the appointment of Mr Odusanya which was done without any advertisement and was not subjected to any form of interview by a panel against the provisions of the University.
Despite several complaints by the three Unions in the University; SSANU, NAAT and NASU, over the crisis that led to the setting up of a committee by the University governing council in their emergency meeting held on 25th July 2017, the appointment of Mr Odusanya continued to create conflict with the office of the Registrar as it was later revealed that his appointment alongside that of the current Bursar of the University Mrs Bolajoke Akande and three others did not follow due process.
Regrettably, following the recent online advertisement by the University in which Mr Odusanya applied as the University Registrar, sources alleged that his ambitions are sponsored by the outgoing Chancellor to cover his tracks after enjoying an uninterrupted four-year spell of alleged looting and maladministration.
With a weighty case of irregularity in the employment process of the University since he assumed office, calls abound for the University Governing Council, and relevant stakeholders to right the wrongs being perpetrated by the outgoing VC who is hell-bent on foisting his anointed candidate as the University Registrar to cover up his tracks.
This is enough evidence for the Chancellor of the University to swing into action and verify the claims before it gets out of hand and breed further curruption and chaos in the university community. If the VC successfully installed installed his cronies as Registrar and Bursar, then it has paved way for an unprecedented maladministration. Minister of education and even the Governor of Ekiti should intervene.
