Immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Godswill Akpabio may be sworn in as the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-East this year despite his loss to Mr Christopher Ekpeyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded National Assembly elections.
In a visit to the State to boost the All Progressive Congress (APC) chances of winning the governorship and state house of assembly elections this Saturday, the Vice President, Mr Yemi Osibanjo declared that Akpabio remains the duly elected Senator for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district.
Osibanjo who’s a Professor of law and should know better that Akpabio can only reclaim his mandate through the court declared that “We are all aware that your votes were cancelled. We will regain all those mandates that were stolen. It is not possible that our senator here standing could have lost. Godswill Akpabio is the duly elected Senator of the people”.
Also speaking at the town hall meeting the National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole stated “I can assure you that we will get back all our Mandates, we have the evidence and the lawyers. I know you are angry, let me tell you that we are bitter. We are going to fight with all that we have to get our Mandate back”.
Akpabio who defected from the PDP last year August and ran under the APC scored 67, 487 as against 136, 373 votes for Chris Ekpenyong of PDP.
