The CP Imohimi Edgal led Akwa Ibom State Police Command may have a hard nut to crack as it concerns sifting out police officers who are cultists before they overrun the Command as initiations of citizens in various local government areas as well as providing protection for cult members within the State seems to have become a standard practice within the Command.

This is following the dismissal of one of its officers identified as Mr Mfon Esio with Police number F/NO 513379 PC after been convicted in an orderly room trial for discreditable conduct to wit cultism having been fingered to be a member of the Junior Vikings Confraternity as contained in a Police press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer CSP N-Nudam K. Fredrick.

Sources revealed that following refusals by one Ubong John Wiiiliam to join the confraternity despite several invitations and persuasions by other members of the cult, the dismissed Police Constable who appeared to be a kingpin in the cult due to his numerous roles in providing information, protection, and weapons to members of the cult, was alerted prompting him to arrange an initiation with guarantees to his cult members that Ubong will be present.

On the day scheduled for the initiation, it was gathered that the dismissed Constable allegedly abducted Ubong into a bush said to be along Marina Road, Eket where he was forcefully initiated into the Junior Vikings Confraternity.

However, luck ran out of them when men of the Anti-Cultism Unit, Akwa Ibom State stormed the location of the initiation arresting Mfon Esio and 12 others while recovering Ten (10) locally made pistols, Four hundred (400) live cartridges, Ten (10) expended cartridges, Fifteen (15) machetes, Five (5) axes, wraps of substance suspected to be cocaine and items suspected to be voodoo.

It is believed that there may be more Police officers within the Akwa Ibom State Command who are cultists hence the increased rate of cult-related activities within the State despite several efforts by the state to curb the menace.
