‎A High Court in Akwa Ibom State has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Commandant Geraldine Abetianbe, over allegations bordering on abuse of office and illegal operations.

‎According to a source from another security agency who only volunteered to speak to Secrets Reporters on strict condition of anonymity, said the warrant was served at the State Command Headquarters on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, but the Commandant allegedly refused to collect it.

‎”Since the warrant was served on Wednesday, she has been running helter skelter seeking help,” another source said

Secrets Reporters gathered that the bench warrant is connected to an alleged illegal operation, arrest, and impounding of a truck earlier reported by this medium. The same incident was also said to be the subject of an investigation by the military.

‎Details of the court charge were not immediately available as of press time as efforts to obtain a copy of the warrant from the court registry proved abortive.

‎This is not the first time Commandant Abetianbe’s tenure will be coming under scrutiny. You will recall that since her deployment to Akwa Ibom State Command in December 2025, her administration has been marred by a series of allegations questioning her competence and capacity to administer the Command.

‎Multiple officers within and outside the Command both indigenes and non indigenes who spoke to Secrets Reporters alleged a pattern of high-handedness, disregard for due process, and operational lapses that have continued to erode public trust in the Corps.

‎It is widely reported among officers and stakeholders in Uyo that the Commandant’s continued stay in office despite the controversies is linked to her alleged connections to the hierarchy of the Corps. Sources also allege that she has openly bragged about her closeness to the first family, specifically mentioning Chief Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the President’s first daughter, as a reason why “no one can touch her.”

‎Secrets Reporters could not independently verify these claims of connection to the first family.

‎Critics argue that such perceived protection has emboldened impunity and is bringing the image of the NSCDC to disrepute at a time the Corps is working to reposition itself as a professional, law-abiding agency.

‎As of the time of filing this report, Commandant Abetianbe could not be reached for comments. Calls and messages to the NSCDC Akwa Ibom State Public Relations Officer were also not returned.

‎Legal experts say a serving State Commandant being declared wanted by a court of competent jurisdiction is unprecedented and portends grave consequences for discipline and accountability in the Corps.

‎The court is expected to proceed with committal proceedings if the Commandant fails to present herself.

‎Commandant Abetianbe is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

‎Secrets Reporters will continue to monitor developments and provide updates.
