Royal Extortion: Osun State Oba Akanbi Budgets Meagre N50 Million To Marry Kano State Princess And Tasks Wealthy Citizens To Pay For It

Following the outcry on social media over the deputy chairman of the Osun state council of Obas, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi’s N20 million demand to the Osun state governor to facilitate his marriage to his heartthrob from the ancient city of Kano, documents are beginning to surface with findings showing outrageous figures penned down for the proposed royal wedding.

According to a letter seen by SecretReporters dated 7th February 2022 from the office of the Babalaje of Iwo Land, Alhaji Ismaila Toyin Kudaisi, plans were already in place to ensure a hitch free royal ceremony with the constitution of a committee with a provisional budget of N50,000,000 (Fifty Million Naira).

The sum is to cover the traditional wedding Tambaya (Introduction), Kai Kaya (Engagement) and the Haqidu Nikkai.

With the royal wedding now turned into a sponsorship project, an account number domiciled with Access bank Plc under the name Oriaje Law Chamber was subsequently provided with instructions to benefactors to forward transaction receipts of their payments to phone numbers contained in the letter issued by the Babalaje of Iwoland.

It should be noted that the Oluwo divorced his former wife, Chanel Chin, in December 2019, and the palace has been without a queen since then, prompting his choice to marry a princess from the Ade Bayero dynasty in Kano State.

The Oluwo’s request for financial assistance has elicited mixed reactions in Osun state, with many objecting to the Monarch using his traditional office to solicit large sums of money even from the state government’s coffers, even though he is not in a position to host such extravagant wedding.
