Like many of his counterparts who derive joy in wasting their state lean resources, the governor of Ebonyi State, Mr David Umahi has finally joined the league.
In a rather bizarre manner to mock the electorates, most of whom are civil servants and pensioners that he has not paid their dues, the governor ordered in one swoop four new Toyota V8 SUV vehicles at N29 million each to be given as gifts to some former governors of the state.
This was after rubber stamping the Ebonyi State House of Assembly into approving the reckless purchase, which was inflated with over N7 million on each of them and allegedly given to a crony as contract, relayed a source.
Those to benefit from largesse are Sam Egwu, Ogbonnaya Onu who was the former governor of old Abia State and now Minister of Science and Technology, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim and immediate past governor, Elechi, who rejected his own describing it as a ‘Greek gift.
The government in a letter to the beneficiaries, said the gifts were “in recognition of their role in promotion of democracy in Ebonyi State and for meritorious services in that regard”.
