The banquet hall inside Government House, Owerri set Imo State indigenes backward by N300 million as Governor Hope Uzodinma approved such not for a new building but for reconstruction. Hundreds of million spent on rebuilding a banquet hall inside the seat of government, and no public announcement of the work, no contractor name in the public records, no construction evidence located. Banquets do not get reconstructed in secret, yet this one did.
The staff quarters tell the same story. The official records show N250,000,000 approved for the completion of a one-storey staff-quarters building at Government House meant to house the ADC, the CSO and others, with N82,688,500 released in the second quarter.
Then there is the governor’s lodge in Lagos. Official spending records show N400,000,000 approved for its rehabilitation in 2026, A lodge hundreds of kilometres from the seat of government, rehabilitated with public money while no one can say what was rehabilitated, or when, or by whom.
But the line that asks the sharpest question does not sit in Government House at all. It sits in the budget of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. According to the official spending records seen by SecretsReporters, the SSG’s office budgeted N175,000,000 to renovate and convert some floors of an office complex into short-let accommodation. It is not clear what Uzodinma intends to use such for as short-lets are the kind of accommodation tourists and travellers pay for by the night.
