The defection of Speaker Aminu Tambuwa Waziri from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the rival All Progressive Congress (APC) has spelt doom for him as the Presidency has put in place all security apparatus to frustrate him.
On Thursday the State Security Service (SSS) apparently on the order of the Presidency descended on the National Assembly Speaker by preventing him from entering the complex.
Tambuwal who had already driven past the first gate was stopped at the second gate. He had to abandon his security vehicle and escorts to walk in. He was again stopped at the third gate which led to a heated argument between his supporters and the security operatives before he was allowed in.
Some of the APC lawmakers who were not allowed in had to jump the gate before they could gain access. Ironically, while the Speaker was stopped, his deputy, Emeka Ihedioha was allowed inside.
Today happens to be President Goodluck Jonathan’s 57th year birthday and while the crisis rock the National Assembly, he was receiving his kinsmen led by Gov Seriake Dickson as part of his birthday celebration.
