The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority has come under scrutiny over alleged violations of the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria following the award of contracts worth ₦128,667,534.87 to Chet Engineering Limited, a company that had been in existence for barely a year at the time the transactions were carried out.
Records obtained by this media organization show that Chet Engineering Limited received payments from the agency between 2022 and 2023 for consultancy and infrastructure-related services.
Investigation revealed that on 26 September 2022, the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority paid Chet Engineering Limited the sum of ₦41,341,534.87 for consultancy services for the safe transport of nuclear and radioactive sources in oil and gas, manufacturing, and construction, covering both land and marine operations. The transaction was processed under Payment No. 1000984877-4, with Payer Code 0232009001.
On 21 December 2023, the Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority paid Chet Engineering Limited ₦87,326,000.00 for the equipping of the West Africa Nuclear and Radiation Monitoring, Detection and Response Centre laboratory in Lamiichi, Kano State. The transaction was processed under Payment No. 1001135925-1, with Payer Code 0232009001.
Corporate records show that Chet Engineering Limited was registered on 22 July 2021. This timeline is significant as it indicates that the company had existed for only about one year before receiving contracts and payments totaling ₦128,667,534.87.
Under the Public Procurement Act 2007, companies seeking Federal Government contracts are required to provide evidence of tax payments for the preceding three years, alongside audited financial statements covering the same period. These provisions are intended to ensure that public funds are awarded to entities with verifiable operational history, technical capacity, and financial credibility.
