Secret Reporters
An almost unbelievable and shocking revelation may have engulfed the State Security Services (SSS) few days before Nigerians go to the polls as this online news medium gathered that the 36 state commands of the primary domestic intelligence agency of Nigeria are currently in awe over the amount disbursed for them to carry out their constitutional duties in the forthcoming general election.
Sources within the commission who squealed to our reporter disclosed that the morale of the personnel is at its record low with just a few days to the general elections as the sum of N15 million (Fifteen Million Naira) released for each state command by the Director-General Yusuf Magaji is a far cry from the initially amount of N10,213,282,455 (Ten billion, two hundred and thirteen million, two hundred and eighty-two thousand, four hundred and fifty-five) approved as Virement by the National Assembly for the 2019 general elections operations.
According to one of our sources, this implies that N15 million is to be used to monitor forty (40) LCDA for a state like Lagos with N7.5 million for the Presidential/National Assembly and Governorship/State House of Assembly elections respectively.
SecretReporters also gathered that the signal dated 11/02/2019 and signed by L.U. Safana originating from the National Headquarters of State Services also revealed that the 15 million Naira was not just to cover for logistics for each state command but also included the payment for allowances for personnel mobilized for the election, repairs and fuelling of vehicles, payment of retired agents whose services may be required during the election and intervention in other critical areas. Subsequently, the National headquarters of State Services further directed that all commands were to render returns on the utilization of the fund after the elections.
Despite being owed about two arrears (peculiar and harmonization arrears) since last year, and each state including the FCT receiving just N15million for the elections, the activities of the Director General of the State Service Yusuf Magaji have come under heavy fire with so many questions begging to be answered especially on what the DG intends to do with the remaining money which amounts to about N9,445,000,000 (Nine billion, four hundred and forty-five million) after the total of N555,000,000 (Five hundred and fifty-five million) for the 36 state commands including the FCT has been deduction from the initial amount approved for the Department.
It will be recalled that last year a total of about N53,237,777,708 (Fifty-three billion, two hundred and thirty-seven million, seven hundred and seventy-seven thousand, seven hundred and eight) was approved for security agencies with the Department of State Services receiving the second highest amount after the Nigerian Police which got about N27,341,317,433 (Twenty-seven billion, three hundred and forty-one million, three hundred and seventeen thousand, four hundred and thirty-three) to enable them effectively carry out their constitutional duties during the 2019 general elections.
