As citizens, we respect the laws because they are clearly communicated and fairly enforced. Even in Nigeria’s civil service, everyone is held accountable to the same laws and if one desire respect from the law, he or she must first make the law respectable.

However, instead of following laid down rules that guide the conduct of civil servants in the country, the Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr Lanre Gbajabiamila this online news medium learnt have decided to tow the part of a tyrant by appointing Personal and Special Assistants and granting them administrative privileges to perform job functions of member staff as against known civil service laws.

SecretReporters gathered that not only is the DG alleged of assigning his PAs and SAs to carry out oversight responsibilities meant for civil servants in the commission, he is also accused of gross impunity and absolute disregard for the provision of federal circulars, PSR and other operational documents meant to guide the actions and decisions of Public servants. 

In running the commission like his personal business sources within the commission who confided in our reporter but pleaded anonymity disclosed that at various times the DG in his usual nefarious capacity always send his Secretary or Special Assistant , and even in most cases his Personal Assistant to state offices to carry out supervisory functions as though they were directly involved in the administration of the Commission which most times lead to confusion within the commission as to who is actually the head and to whom staff are to answer to.

It should be recalled that in a circular dated 3rd January, 2000 from the Presidency through the office of the head of the Civil service of the federation with reference number B.63833/73 it was stated categorically on the appointment of PAs and SAs that they are not part of the civil service and should not be directly involved in the administration of the commission rather they are to be engaged to render personal service to Heads of Agencies who appointed them.

Despite all these the DG allegedly still carry out his impunities undeterred as he claims to be untouchable in the commission.

The DG didn’t respond to our calls or SMS when contacted to get his reaction on these allegations.
