Recently in Nigeria’s political space, affidavits submitted to the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) by politicians as part of their electoral eligibility into various offices have shown to be laced with lies, forgeries, and perjury.

An exemplary case being that of Mr Mutu Nicholas Ebomo who like a chameleon in its camouflage allegedly tendered a malicious document to fulfil his vicious political ambition of retaining his seat in the “green chamber” ahead of 2019 rescheduled general elections.

SecretsReporters during its investigation gathered that the 58 years old Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker whose updated profile in the National Assembly where he has been a representative since 1999 shows that he was a graduate of St. Clements’s University; a higher institution registered in the Turks and Caicos Islands, where he claimed to have obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration in the year 2003 may have lied on oath as he purposively failed to attach his acclaimed Certificate in the Affidavit forms submitted to INEC.

In line with best-known practices of our media establishment, a mail was sent to the student registrar of St. Clements’s University, Ms Judy Garforth, who affirmed of Nicholas Ebomo’s enrollment into the University in 1999, same year he was elected in his native home and his graduation four years later from the above-named course of study.

However, the credibility of the school which is known to be a hub for fake degrees and also has no accreditation according to official government listings was put in doubt as it was obviously impossible for Mutu to have gone through a four-year on-campus degree program while he was a serving House of Rep member in Nigeria.

Was he flying to London every day for his classes? Did he have a clone who attended each class for him? Was his ghost helping him to write and submit class assessments? These and many questions are on the lips of many who feel that if Mr Mutu actually claimed he attended the university, why then was it not attached in the documents he filled on oath to INEC in readiness to contest as a representative of Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency?
