Nigerians live in blatantly corrupt times where the supposed law enforcers are the progenitors of corruptions, where the corrupt government employs corrupt bureaucrats that enact corrupt policies, where the police willfully break law on video and denyit in writing.

With recent events in the country, it is evident that there is no longer transparency in the Nigerian Police as reports reaching our newsroom reveals that the recalcitrant Police Service Commission covertly recruited and sent 10,000 fraudulent candidates to training camps as against the originally shortlisted successful applicants for the 2016 recruitment exercise for specialist ASPs and Inspectors.

SecretReporters gathered that 261 and 109 candidates were shortlisted under the ASP and Inspector Specialist Cadet categoryrespectively in the 2016 Police Recruitment exercise and in respect to that, their names were published in the national dailies as they were asked tostand-by for an interview that would determine what field they would be rightfully placed into as “specialist” in the first quarter of 2017 while awaiting resumption at the various Nigeria Police College training camps.

Consequent upon this development, the applicants were informed that another group of people had been enrolled into the police college training camps, under ambiguous circumstances and without clearly defined criteria for eligibility and in contravention to the federal character as guaranteed under the constitution. It was further gathered that the chosen enrolled candidates purportedly did not apply or undergo any recruitment process, aptitude test, physical screening and documentation before they were fraudulently injected into the college.

More findings by this online news medium revealed that the candidates were informed indifferently by the Commissioner One, the Permanent Secretary, the Chairman ofthe Police Service Commission, and the Deputy Inspector General in charge of training that their recruitment process was over and in their own interest they should re-apply for the 2017 Police recruitment exercise but as general duties this time in lieu of wasting their time pursuing a futile course seeking reinstatement.

It is also alleged that the names of the men and women who were fraudulently injected into the police college training to commence training have not been made public by the Police Service Commission but rather they were discreetly contacted via SMS and email and on arrival to the training camp, they were asked to present the email or text message sent to them as proof while the camp officials crosscheck their names with a list provided by the Police Service Commission before they are allowed entry into the camp.

Efforts made to obtain a copy of the list from the Police Service Commission have proven abortive till date and requests to make the covert recruitment process public has fallen on deaf ears.

The police PRO didn’tpick calls from our newsroom to respond to our enquiries.
