COURT JESTER: DELTA LAWMAKER OHARISI  DESPITE CRAMMING HOW TO MOVE MOTION AND PETITION FIRST TIME IN HIS LIFE STILL GOOFS ON THE FLOOR

It was a comedy of error section on Wednesday during the sitting at the Delta State House of Assembly, when the lawmaker representing Ughelli North II, Mr Eric Oharisi turned himself into the comedian of the day.

House members who came to the assembly for the day event were shocked to see Oharisi name as the first on attendance register, when he’s known to be a habitual late comer. They were yet to see the surprise of the day as he has his sleeves rolled up. The lawmakers felt he just came to sign his name and bolt out as his stock in trade, but were shocked to look inside the lounge and saw him holding a book in his hand.

For the first time ever, the legislators felt he has urgent matter of importance to move. After the prayers, Mr Speaker, Sheriff Oborevwori sked “any petition”? From behind, a voice was heard saying “Yes, Mr Speaker, Eric Oharisi is my name….” forgetting how to introduce himself since it was a crammed speech he was about to deliver.

A lawmaker, Reuben Izeze asked the Speaker if the petition has been certified, to which the Speaker asked him if he has certified it. The Majority Leader promptly told him, “Oharisi Ughelli North II, please see Mr Speaker. The guy boy that he is bounced to see the Speaker, with laughter from his colleagues.

The legislative procedure for presenting a petition we learnt is to send it first to Mr Speaker once you receive such from your constituent, who will now send it to the Committee on Public Petitions, who will now look at it and put a certificate on it showing that it has been certified, and send it back to Mr Speaker. It is then the Speaker will now send it back to the lawmaker who is the presenter of the petition that it can be listed as a petition of the house for the lawmaker to present on the floor. Thereafter it is referred back to the Committee to investigate and report back to the House.
