SOUTH EAST AND SOUTH SOUTH SET TO HOLD CONFERENCE TO UNITE THE REGION

The South-East/South-South Network (SESSNet) has concluded arrangements to hold its maiden international conference in Owerri, Imo State capital.

The theme of the Conference is: South-East and South-South: Towards Greater Economic Union.

SESSNet, is a group of progressive, digitally-connected professionals in Nigeria and Diaspora that projects that the Eleven South-East and South-South states of Nigeria based on their geographical, cultural and social proximity, should establish an economic union and thus lead the way to Nigeria’s economic emancipation.

The conference will take place at the Conference Hall of the Links Hotel, Chief Evan Enwerem Ave, Owerri, Nigeria, on the 18th of April, 2017 at 10:00 am prompt.

Those expected at the conference includes stakeholders from South-South and South East region of the country; The eleven State Governors, lawmakers and relevant commissioners. Others are private and public sector operators in the region and the general public interested in the SESSNet agenda.

A rights activist, Annkio Briggs, and other notable names from the region are expected to speak at the Summit

The group in an official statement issued yesterday and jointly signed by the National Coordinators, Messrs Emmanuel Ohai, Dowell Mirin, Eze Eluchie, Emen Dunn, Tochukwu Ezeoke, and Aloysius Osuji stated that issues to be discussed at the conference include: fiscal federalism, economic integration, political integration, addressing regional fears, mistrust and political concerns and inter-regional commerce among the eleven states of the South South and South East.

According to SESSNet, the fora will give the South South and South East states an ample opportunity to focus on its natural resources in developing areas of its comparative advantage and ultimately entrench inter-regional trade and commerce.

Lamenting that the region has been stunted by inherent contradictions of the Nigerian State, SESSNet further stated that South South and South East has an enormous and the greatest potentials in terms of human, economic and natural resources in Sub Saharan Africa.

Launched in December, 2016, SESSNet, is a progressive, digitally-connected organising group in Nigeria. The group is pioneered online, organising and creating advocacy techniques that have become standard in politics, nonprofits, and the industrial sector globally.

SESSNet had earlier called for the transformation of Nigeria into a true federation that works for the people by restructuring the country to reflect fiscal federalism; The group aims to create a South-South/South-East network of dedicated professionals to synergise and assume leadership positions and to educate and enlighten the youths in the region to take control of their destiny.
