ECOWAS YOUTH COUNCIL (EYC): IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE ON POLITICAL AND DEMOCRATIC REBIRTH OF THE REPUBLIC OF GAMBIA AND ITS PEACE CITIZENS.

The United Nation Security Council, African Union (AU), Economic Community of West African States Commission (ECOWAS), International Human Rights Institutions,Civil Society Organisation and the Peaceful people of Gambia.

In close observance of the December 1, 2016 general and presidential elections conducted in the Republic of Gambia, the ECOWAS Youth Council extends a hand of appreciation to the Independent Elections Commission (IEC), the people of Gambia, international and local observers for exercising the essence of democracy in a free, fair, peaceful and orderly manner which is in the best interest of peace for all citizens.

The ECOWAS Youth Council (EYC) is quite informed by internal and international sources that the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) headed by Mr. Alieu Momarr Njai had previously announced results in favor of Mr. Adama Barrow who democratically won 43.34% of the votes. With sense of patrimony, we watched incumbent president Mr. Yahya Jammeh conceded the result announced by the IEC in which he congratulated Mr. Adama Barrow for the implicit confidence the people of Gambia have entrusted the president elect with.

In latest international news, the EYC has been informed that Gambia incumbent president Yahya Jemmah has refuted results from the IEC of the just ended Gambia’s elections on the basis of enunciation of fraud in the process. In detective of uprising and conflict circulation, the ECOWAS Youth Council is categorically clear that in so far the voices of Gambians have spoken through the ballot boxes it is of NO VIOLATION that the people’s decision be trashed for selfish individual gain.

We urged the sitting government of the Republic of Gambia to abide by its constitutional, judrispondent and international responsibilities on decision reached by stakeholders and the vast majority of the country. It is an international creed that the verdict of the ballot paper is respected, and the rigorous security support be given to the president-elect Mr. Adama Barrow and the citizenry of Gambia be ensured through affordable stability of peace. The EYC in its resilient mores for peace, integration and human rights is strongly in support of the United Nations, African Union, ECOWAS Commission, Human Rights Organizations and legal security bodies to stand-tall for a free transition of power to the president-elect in due constitutional deadlines in relation to electoral laws.

The ECOWAS Youth Council urges the elected leadership, political leaders, civil society organizations, the armed forces and the people of the Republic of Gambia to reframe from all forms of violence that has the propensity to destabilize the freedom, justice and peace of the republic. We call upon all youth to be civil and don’t allow to be used by selfish politicians to destroy the moral fabrics of our African harmony development.
We obviously stand in solidarity for peace, justice and freedom for the people of Gambia and we wish that the law of the land be implemented with no form of favoritism.
