LATE IBRU LEFT INDELIBLE MARKS – SEMENITARI

Ag. Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, has condoled with the family of late Olorogun Felix Ibru, saying there was consolation he left indelible footprints worthy of emulation. Semenitari said there are several landmarks for which Ibru, the first democratically elected governor of Delta State, would be remembered.

Recalling the late Ibru’s rise in his profession as architect to his days as governor, senator and President General, Urhobo Progressives Union, UPU, through deliberate hard work, Semenitari, who has also condoled with the Government and People of Delta State, said that each of the eighty years he lived was engaging, committed to human service and hard work. “Late Olorogun Felix Ibru was committed to the wellbeing of the human essence as he worked for better society devoid of apartheid. He had the space to have flaunted his privileged class, yet he preferred the path of even relationship”, Semenitari stated.

While describing the late Delta State Governor as one of Nigeria’s finest in his generation, Semenitari said his wise counsels and moderation would be missed. She observed that despite his middle-class upbringing, the late Ibru drew no line of demarcation with the lower class. “The late Ibru, despite his middle class inheritance, never drew any line between him and the lower class. That leaves us with much inspiration and lessons as we strive to erase the lines that pull our humanity apart. So, we thumps-up for this great son of the Niger Delta region. He stands shoulder high among the crop of those whose stories make us a peculiar people”.

Semenitari added that there are more lessons than tears to be drawn from both the life and death of Olorogun Ibru.

“There are more lessons than tears we can draw from the life and death of late Olorogun Ibru. Whereas his life is in itself a lesson in hard work and humility, his death teaches us that our earthly sojourn should be committed to human service. The late Ibru realised that early in life and took the necessary steps. Today, rather than mourn, we celebrate a life well-lived.

“Though it is part of human lot to grief and partake in pains, the life of Olorogun Felix Ibru was one well-spent and a positive challenge to the living”.

Semenitari encouraged the family of the late Ibru to find solace in God, Who she said, alone can comfort the bereaved and those mourning.
