The newly sworn-in commissioner for youths and sports in Cross River State, Mr. Asu Okang on monday addressed staff and youths in the ministry.
In this word, “there is no thinking outside the box but it’s time to think of global ideas that can rule the world.” He promised a rebrand in the ministry and assured the staff of the ministry to expect a good working relationship with him.

He charged the Director of sports that its main interest should be the empowering of an average Cross River youth and to ensure that his office become useful to its demand. The commissioner also said he was aware of some of the challenges facing the ministry. He also spoke on the issues facing the Calabar Rovers and the Pelican stars and assured them that he will look into those issues.

He informed the staff at the Ministry that it’s a new dawn and they should expect ideas that will rule the Nations.

Meanwhile, the Executive members of the state Youth Council in Cross River, led by Comrade Bernard Okorie, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Addressing the delegation after chanting some solidarity songs, the Spokesperson said they were so happy to identify with him as their new commissioner and thanked Gov. Ben Ayade, for finding it worthy to appoint a youth into such a position.

In his words, indeed it’s a round bed in a round hole. First time in the history of Nigeria and Cross River State a youth is appointed a commissioner. He assured the commissioner of full support from the state youth council and extended their appreciation to the permanent secretary for acting like a mother to the youths of Cross River State and also appreciated all the directors of youths and sports for mentoring one of them to become a commissioner while describing the commissioner as a man with high qualities.

In his response, Mr.Asu Okang also chanted some solidarity songs while expressing happiness at their visit. In his speech, he said, “I am just 34. Permit me to commend His Excellency for finding one of us fit for this position. I am not the only best candidate; we have the likes of the Abangs from Biase, the Mboras from municipality and the Nakandas from Akpabuyo and so on. This is my constituency, here I belong, and here I end.
Today is an opportunity to showcase ourselves. I am conscious to the fact that my actions and inactions determine if another youth will be given such an opportunity. It’s time to correct the impression that a Cross River youth is not good enough. I expect the next Commissioner for Youths to be under 30.”

He stated that he won’t fail them, and will ensure he drives the economic structure of the Ben Ayade led administration.

The Commissioner for Youths and Sports also stated that they will imbibe ideas that will rule the world, and assured the Youths that he will be a friendly commissioner.
He assured them that he won’t thin the glasses of his car and won’t change his phone numbers. In his words, Mr.Asu Okang said, “I will hear from you at anytime even on the road side, sign any valid proposals, we will meet where we use to meet after all a lion cannot fear a lion.”

While responding to questions from some youths about the ministry and his mission, he said the turn out in the ministry is impressive.

Finally, he assured the youths of a redefined leadership one for all and thanked them for their support, solidarity and for standing by the Government.

The Commissioner said he will drive at the policy of the government, create jobs by going back to the drawing board and ensure that the average Cross River youth have skills and also thanked the governor for finding him worthy for the appointment and solicited for the support of all staff in the ministry.
