Mr.Alex Okunbor, an Engineer and a rights Activist, today, sought to obtain an order from the Federal High Court, Abuja to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting supplementary elections in Kogi State.
The suit which was filed today at the Federal High Court, Abuja, with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/837/2015 is challenging the order given by INEC to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to substitute its candidate haven lost their standard bearer, Mr.Abubakar Audu who stood for the elections.
Mr.Alex is praying the court to compel INEC to declare Captain Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the gubernatorial elections having scored the highest votes alive,
He averred that the APC who had lost its candidate cannot substitute for a fresh candidate, and that there is no basis for supplementary elections.
In his position, INEC should rather organize a fresh election to elect a new Governor for Kogi State.
As at the time of filing this report, the court is yet to assign a date for the hearing of the suit.
Meanwhile, the hierarchy of the Peoples Democratic Party yesterday, convened a meeting to weigh the party’s options in the proposed supplementary elections by INEC.
The party’s legal team has been mobilized to take legal actions once the nod of the National Working Committee (NWC) is gotten.
