The image of the 10th National Assembly has again come under scrutiny, as Mallam Bukar Gana, a member of the House of Representatives, has brought disgrace, deeply entrenched in corruption, to the House through contract racketeering schemes.
This conduct contravenes the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) regulations, which are designed to uphold transparency, accountability, and integrity in public service. The regulations explicitly prohibit public officials from owning or managing private businesses while serving full-time in government roles, with the exception of farming enterprises, which are exempt from these rules to avoid conflicts of interest.
Mallam Bukar Gana, in his capacity as a member of the House of Representatives, utilised a private company, Bal & Buk Business Resources Ltd, where he serves as a director, to secure government contracts amounting to ₦414,875,210.00. This practice of contract racketeering undermines the integrity of public procurement processes and raises significant ethical concerns.
