EXCLUSIVE: DETTY DECEMBER: GOV. OKOWA FLUSHED AWAY N122 MILLION TO LAWMAKERS AND COMMISSIONERS AS CHRISTMAS/NEW YEAR PACKAGE

Secret Reporters

Legislators of the Delta State House of Assembly are currently groaning and secretly cursing Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over what they described as “his insensitive nature to our political career”, SecretReporters has learned.

The 2019 Christmas celebration which has been termed #DettyDecember by social media users and New Year may turn dirty for the lawmakers as some of them are scared of going to their communities for fear of receiving dirty beating from their constituents, who they will not be sharing package for.

We gathered that the Governor doled out the sum of N2.5 million to each of the twenty nine lawmakers from the State coffer. Majority of the lawmakers reached out to SecretReporters lamenting how meager the money is and threatened to start having it hot with him beginning from next year, to stop the shabby financial treatment he has consistently meted out to them.

“How does he expect us to share N2.5 million to party leaders? We are talking of local governments that have over fifty wards each, with party chairmen, secretaries, Vice, women leader, youth leader and other political figures and all he can give us is N2.5 million”, one of them wailed.

“This man just wants to render us useless politically before our people while he makes his own people happy. Can N2.5 million buy a trailer load of rice? Won’t we buy chickens and condiments for the people we represent? We have never had it this bad in the state”, another lamented.

Similarly, Okowa splashed N2 million each on the twenty five Commissioners to enjoy themselves for the celebration season. With this, the total sum of N122.5 million went into the pockets of the lawmakers and commissioners.

For the Ministry of Information, the Commissioner, Mr Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu only gave each of the ten media aides to the Governor a miserable sum of fifty thousand Naira each and two bags of rice, which is a far cry from what was obtained under the past Commisioner, Patrick Ukah, who managed the ministry under a time of recession. It is not exactly clear to us how much the governor released to him to share to local and national media which never got to most of them.

Unlike the previous Commissioner, Charles gave only fifteen bags of rice to community newspapers publishers instead of twenty two which is their number and also gave them beggar sum of Five thousand Naira each which is currently causing crisis among the publishers, threatening to reject the money and rice.

“Under Ukah, we got more but for this new man, his arrogance won’t allow one talk to him. Once it’s not available, Ukah will tell you but for this guy, he doesn’t care, with his pride all over him”, one of the publishers confided in us.

The sum of N10 million we can report authoritatively was also given to the Students community through the SSA on Students Affairs, Mr Jerry Ewhiaro.
