DON’T POLITICIZE SERVICE CHIEFS APPOINTMENT; NORTHERN YOUTHS WARN NIGERIANS

The Northern Nigeria Youth Council (NNYC) has thrown its weight behind Gen. Kenneth Minimah who was last week appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan as Chief of Army Staff.
In a statement issued in Lagos and signed by its National Chairman, Ahmad Muttaqa and National Secretary, Sani Ahmed, the group said the general is a brilliant scholar with enviable records in the military and called on the lawmakers to rise above board to clear him so that he can settle down to tackle security challenges confronting the nation.

The youth explained that they have no doubt that General Minimah has garnered enough skills and experience to tackle the multifaceted security problem confronting our the country.

“We therefore deem it fit and thought it wise to draw the attention of well meaning Nigerians most especially the unprejudiced lawmakers that cut across different religious and ethnic background.

“Sequel to the past antecedent of General K.T Minimah who join the Nigeria Defence Academy’s 25th regular course, a refined and dogged infantry officer who rose through the ranks to become the head of Lagos command, whose excellent performance earned him his immediate past appointment, commander of the Nigerian Army infantry corps Jaji. This availed him added opportunities to meeting sound minded Nigerians including the highest ranking officers of the Nigerian Army”, the statement said. See below for full text of the statement.

The Northern Nigeria Youth Council has noticed with great concern publications in some national dailies the way the office of service chiefs especially the office of the chief of Army staff wants to be politicized base on sentiments.

However the council wishes to express with great dissatisfaction by aborting her foreign trip to express her views towards the development in the military shake-up and the mixed reactions that subsequently followed.

We therefore deem it fit and thought it wise to draw the attention of well meaning Nigerians most especially the unprejudiced lawmakers that cut across different religious and ethnic background.

We the northern Nigeria youth council, wish to categorically throw our weight behind the appointment of Major General K.T Minimah as the C.O.A.S by the president and commander in chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan whom must have taken into consideration of the aforementioned brilliant antecedents coupled with the constitutional ambit.

There is no doubt that General Minimah has garnered enough skills and experience to tackle the multifaceted security problem confronting our dear country.

On a final note, we wish to call on the General to discharge is duty without fear or favour in other to bring the current security situation in the country under control especially the Northern part of the country for us to enjoy the relative peace been enjoyed in the country in the good old days.
