The students of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka have elected a new Student Union Government (SUG) against the wish of the state governor, Mr Ifeanyi Okowa as trumpeted by his Special Assistant on Students’ Affairs, Mr Jerry Ehiwario.
Sources confided in Secret Reporters that few days to the election, the SA moved into Abraka on alleged orders of the governor to make sure an Ika indigene emerge as the next SUG President to have a good outing with the students in 2019 election.
Jerry who has always been in the news for siphoning funds meant for students including diversion of rice allegedly told all who cared to listen that he’s acting on instructions from the governor and went about doling out cash to past student leaders who many described as “expired old men” to influence students into voting for one Samuel Ehinauta even when it was glaring that the students wanted another candidate in the person of Ajede Uche.
Confiding in our newspaper, a source revealed that that the two candidates from Anioma, Ajede and Samuel were invited to Asaba, where Ajede who is from Ndowka was offered millions to step down which he refused. His refusal set the stage for the governor’s aide to make sure the anointed candidate win.
To achieve his aim, he contacted one Thankgod Nuwhelle to reach out to the expired ex students. Tribal sentiments were brought in as Anioma students were told to vote for only Samuel while their coordinators were given N10,000 each to share out to students. The sum of N1.2 millon was allegedly shared in Platinum Hotel on that day and a total sum of N3.5 million wasted on the venture.
Out of protest against the governor’s choice through his aide, the Urhobos who originally wanted to vote for Ajede united to rally round Igbukun Mamus who no one expected to win the election and he won.
A very top official of the government who spoke to Secret Reporters disowned Jerry for sponsoring a candidate and using the governor’s name to pursue his self agenda of becoming a kingmaker.
