ASARI DOKUBO RELEASED FROM BENIN REPUBLIC ON PRESIDENT JONATHAN’S INTERVENTION

Fejiro Oliver

Following intervention from Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, ex militant, Asari Dokubo who was arrested and kept in an unknown destination in Benin Republic was released last night.

A source who told us revealed that the presidency has been under pressure from his Ijaw kinsmen to appeal to Benin Republic to release Dokubo. Part of the reasons presented to the President was the fact that Dokubo has stood by the president in thick and thin and even laid down his prestige for him, by threatening fire and brimstone should he not be re-elected.

We gathered that one of those who facilitated his release is the president’s political father, Edwin Clark as well as pleas from the Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson. We were also reliably informed that Dr. Jonathan placed a call to the Benin Republic President last night pleading with him to get Dokubo released on diplomatic grounds. A source within the presidency told this newspaper that Asari will be on his way to Nigeria tomorrow.
